Early Evening Thoughts ~ Real Life Game ~

Nothing at all heavy tonight … I love to watch Parkour and I thoroughly enjoy PC games … such as World of Warcraft, etc.  There’s an incredibly popular game called Assassin’s Creed which has gone through several versions … here, in it’s simplest form is what happens when Parkour meets Assassin’s Creed in real life…. sheer beauty to me ..

Early Afternoon Thoughts ~ Male or Female

One of the more difficult parts of learning a language is what is a female item and what is a male item.  It’s important to know this as it makes a big difference in the sentence structure.  I’d always assumed that English was devoid of “this item is male, this item is female” until today …. and so, hot off the “intertubes”, where everything on the “net” has to be true right?

Male or Female?

You might not have known this,

but a lot of non-living objects

are actually either male or female.

Here are some examples:

FREEZER BAGS
They are male, because they hold everything in, but you can see right through them.

PHOTOCOPIERS
These are female, because once turned off; it takes a while to warm them up again. They are an effective reproductive device if the right buttons are pushed, but can also wreak havoc if you push the wrong Buttons.

TIRES
Tires are male, because they go bald easily and are often over inflated.

HOT AIR BALLOONS
Also a male object, because to get them to go anywhere, you have to light a fire under their butt.

SPONGES
These are female, because they are soft, squeezable and retain water.

WEB PAGES
Female, because they’re constantly being looked at and frequently getting hit on.

TRAINS
Definitely male, because they always use the same old lines for picking up people.

HAMMERS
Male, because in the last 5000 years, they’ve hardly changed at all, and are occasionally handy to have around.

THE REMOTE CONTROL
Female. Ha! You probably thought it would be male, but                 consider this: It easily gives a man pleasure, he’d be lost without it, and while he doesn’t always know which buttons to push, he just keeps                 trying….

And The Competition Starts Now (2) ~

Yesterday I mentioned that I usually enjoy the non-US competition shows more … here are three reasons why … Just so you know, there is no 90 second time restraint, so the real talent can shine through … in other words these clips are a little long – but so, so good.

This was the clip that first introduced me to Ukraine’s Got Talent … I actually had to go back and look up the history to understand it – I’m including a short lesson:

“…the overwhelming brunt of the Nazi occupation between 1941 and 1944, as of the devastating Soviet reoccupation, was borne not by Russia but by the Baltic States, by Belarus, by Poland, and above all by Ukraine…. nowhere is it made clear that the largest number of civilian casualties in Europe were inflicted on the Ukrainians, millions of whom were killed both by the Nazis and by the Soviets. Thanks to persistent wartime prejudices, many British and Americans still harbor the illusion that most Ukrainians spent the war either as auxiliaries in the concentration camps or in the Waffen-SS Galizien….[but] the Waffen SS recruited three times as many Dutchmen as Ukrainians.” (New York Review of Books June 9, 1994, p. 23).

Here’s the 2009 clip of an amazing sand artist …

This years winners were amazing as well … it’s the Street Workout group – who manage to make working out beautiful, sexy and powerful.  No, I wouldn’t want to be next to them at the gym!! This was the final performance…

I have enough trouble riding a two wheeled cycle … maybe I need a three-wheeler!!!!

BONUS CLIP:

And last, but certainly NOT least ~ The world’s best bartender … unless you’re in a hurry to  get that drink!!!!

🙂

I Know ~

I said I was going to take a ramble through incivility, etc. It seems that every time I decide to do so, something either gets in the way or something new (who knew?) causes me to re-think some of what I’ve been thinking.

In the meantime, have the kids been pestering your for a vacation to Disneyland this summer? I did the Disney World experience two summers ago – and at times I’m still recovering.  Here’s a simple solution – 30,000 photos taken over the course of a year.  Sit the little (or not so little) ones down in front of a big screen and show them this video.  They’ll experience it all – minus the long lines, long waits and heat …. Problem solved!!

An Elegant Time-waster ~

BISA (before I started again) I had a feature on Wednesdays called elegant time-waster.  As I am known for spending “some” time on the Web, I have often found these off-beat games, musical instruments, etc. that actually CAN waste time – elegantly.  (There, I’ve used those words enough today (cross that off the bucket list!)  This is a musical matrix that when you land there looks like this:

game in play

You click on a/some square(s) and the note(s) play(s).  Alas, there is NO stop button, so you have to refresh the browser to get you creation to stop playing over and over and over … LOL

Hello world!

Hello from WordPress!! I’ve migrated here from Blogger – I’ll post more on all the “sturm un  Drang” later, but let me just say ~ I was beginning to think I was running some kind of political campaign for a failed candidate …. sheesh!!! Add to that, all the pressure to become part of the “cloud”  … nope, I make my niche here, thank you very much!!!!

An Elegant Moment In Time ~ Early Morning Thoughts

What happens when you take ~ 8 weeks of planning, 8 sound tracks of 60s through 90s music, 10,000 who auditioned, 400 chosen, 10 hidden cameras, and a terminal full of unsuspecting commuters? You get an amazing moment in time.

Here is a cell-phone commercial recently filmed in England … at a railway station during rush hour…

Of course, it took quite a bit of planning and rehearsal ….

I always get a bit teary/emotional seeing things such as this … hopefully, not too many commuters missed their trains ….

Side note ~ There are some advantages to being old(er). Years ago, on the old Alan Funt Candid Camera, in a supermarket ~ there was an announcement on the loudspeaker asking everyone to take a moment and dance. A waltz was played and the “plants” literally took unsuspecting shoppers in their arms and began to waltz with them. My family urben legend is that my uncle had written the show and suggested it as something they could do.

An Elegant Timewaster ~ Early Evening Thoughts

This has been a very interesting week plus. I will blog about it, once I figure out how I can tell what’s going on without divulging too much of what’s gone on and how I feel about it . . .

However, today DB sent me this delightful game, art project, time waster or . . . whatever you want to cal l it.

I will warn you ahead of time ~ it is VERY addictive.

When you click on the link (at the bottom of the post) , you might think you didn’t get to the right place … it will look like this:

But if you notice ~ in the upper left corner is a small box … click your mouse on it and the menu/instructions will be revealed:

As always I am not responsible for lost time, bleary eyes or ignored significant/insignificant others ….

Thanks again DB . . . .

An Elegant Time Waster ~ Late Evening Thoughts

With this month marking seven months of sobriety, I was invited to attend a rehearsal for a production number of a club show – and possibly offer help. This involved going to a country-western club here in Houston. After some thought, I decided that as I had a purpose in being there ~ I would be alright. And I was … uh … except for one tiny problem. In order to smoke in Houston, there has to be a porch. This club had one, so out I went to have a cigarette. (Nasty habit, I know!) They even had two tents with seating under them. I am heading to the seats under one of the tents, which should have been no problem ~ right?

Alas and alack… I didn’t see the cinder blocks that were holding up the supports. I, stone cold sober, sprawled flat on my face, after hitting my knees. Fortunately, the only thing hurt was my pride … and sipping on my cold sprite made me feel even better. Note to self: watch for obstacles on floors!

Tonight I am posting a wonderful – elegant time waster for the mathematicians in all of us. Well, the mathematicians in you — I have NO math skill.

The object is to convert the numbers of PI to musical notes …

This is the 2nd screen you will see ….

A truly lovely time waster ….

Oh and some of the other time wasters listed there are quite fun as well!!!
